What’s to come…

Week one – EARTH
Campers will learn about Backyard Composting, worm composting, take a trip to an urban farm and hear from local experts on urban farming!!

Week two: Fire and Water

Learn about different types of alternative energy's including solar through art, cooking and more!  Do you know what a watershed is?  If not you soon will as you explore the local watershed of South Brook through hikes, games and edible treats!  Also get your photography skills out this week for our Lens on Litter activity!

Week three: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Know what happens after you place your plastic pop bottles and glass jars in the recycling bin?  This week we will explore the behind the scenes of recycling at a local recycling plant.  We will also find out all sorts of fun things you can do with those recyclables - recycled art or Olympic games anyone?

Week four: The Burgh's Environment

Environmental issues can affect the entire world as well as our local communities and neighborhoods.  This week we are going to learn about some of those environmental issues happening in our backyards and what local experts and college students are doing to solve these problems.  Two fun field trips to the University of Pittsburgh and Chatham University are included.

Week five: Action Time

Sooo by this point you will be well on your way to being eco-warriors - just one last hurtle.  You will put all your new knowledge to use by working together on a service project for South Brook!!
